La transmission de course 8HP45 est la première transmission automatique en course. Depuis la saison de course 2014, la transmission de la BMW M235i Racing Cup a prouvé ses avantages. La prochaine étape évolutive est la transmission de course 8P45R, encore plus légère et dynamique. Elle convient parfaitement aux applications de sport automobile et est utilisée notamment dans la Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

La transmission automatique 8HP/8HP45 facilite la tâche des coureurs de la BMW M235i Racing Cup et permet aux pilotes de se concentrer de manière optimale sur la course. En outre, les complications techniques, dues notamment à des erreurs de commutation, sont exclues dès le départ. En concevant la transmission planétaire de course, ZF Race Engineering a visé à obtenir un poids faible, des vitesses de commutation élevées et des points de commutation optimaux. Le gain de poids a été réalisé en supprimant le convertisseur de couple et d’autres mesures. De plus, la dissipation de puissance interne pourrait être considérablement réduite.

Les étagements des rapports ont été conçus encore plus finement dans la 8HP45 par rapport à la transmission 8HP et les sauts de vitesse ont également été réduits. Ainsi, dans la transmission de puissance de la transmission 8HP45 de ZF, les huit étages de commutation sont tous répartis de manière significative pour une utilisation dans le sport automobile.

ZF Race Engineering, en collaboration avec les ingénieurs de Porsche, a conçu une version de course de la transmission à double embrayage Porsche « PDK », utilisée dans la Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Dans le cas de la transmission Porsche, l’accent a été mis sur l’adaptation de la transmission de la série en termes de poids, de stabilité et de temps de commutation, afin d’obtenir les meilleurs résultats possibles lors de l’utilisation en sport automobile.
